    Thank you my friend, I just adjusted the brand new brake assemblies from the rear twice with no change in holding power. About to blow a gasket when found your video and I work on clocks and springs a lot. I was going try to rig some spacers before watching now just running to Ace for a couple springs then get that ugly rejection sticker off windshield tomorrow. GREAT VIDEO!!!

    Can you write down that Aussie word for the string? Sounded like "ockey strap" but when I search, it doesn't show up.

    • @JustAskDave
      @JustAskDave 9 місяців тому

      Haha, sorry about that! Yes it was occy strap I called it. Nickname as it looks like octopus tentacles! It looks like rope and filled with rubber to make it a stretchy cord. Often referred to as shock or bungee cord.

    • @kpopfan674
      @kpopfan674 9 місяців тому

      @@JustAskDave No problem, thanks. Looks like it is what English people call a bungee cord. My car is a different brand from yours but the handbrake assembly looks virtually the same so I want to give your modification a go.

    • @JustAskDave

      Ahh cool, good luck and hope it helps! On ours it turned out there was extra resistance in the cables from the hand brake mechanism to the wheels, most likely from dirt, mud and sand as you would expect from an offroad vehicle. That solution worked for me for the next 3 years until I sold it!

      @JustAskDave Рік тому

      2013 may have been changed, this was in a 2010. The return spring was not strong enough so the extra spring was.needed.

  • @knifetoenail
    @knifetoenail Рік тому

    It could be just maintenance. If you want to save yourself time and trouble. First try lubricating the area between the handle and were the springs are. My wrangle did the same thing and I fixed it with some lubricant. It has been working for 7 months so far.

    • @JustAskDave
      @JustAskDave Рік тому

      Hey Mark, it had been replaced by the dealer and still no better, there was a little too much drag in the cable (dirt and dust etc). This fixed it! Car was only about 18 months old at the time, worked perfectly for another 3 years til I sold it.

    Friggin' Jeep finally fixed this problem on the JLs. Remove 2 simple bolts at the back of the unit (from the back seats), gently lift the console, take your handy socket and slide it in and make on simple adjustment to tighten the brake lines. Really cant believe it took Jeep that many years to make the fix...

    zzzzClockspring can be tightened using 400mm piece of lacing wire fed under the spring & a loop hooked on to the spring and pulled around to the back(eld with a 4mm rod) Wire again fed under the spring from front & pulled again to hook on the original lug. wire slipped off spring a few times. A couple of steel rulers down side of spring & housing might stop wire slipping offggg

    After a lifetime of working on vehicles (not jeep), I have never come across a more complicated USELESS dangerous, and unreliable system very badly engineered. A simple adjusting screw on the short cable would suffice and quality cables that do not stretch as much. Another improvement would be to look at the mechanical advantage mechanism in the brake drum which would require less tension on the cables My Toyota surf is 32 years old and has never had an issue with the cables stretching

No esta demas ajustar las balatas del tambor girando la ruedecilla a traves de la ventanita para tal efecto

    I had failing hand brake in dodge nitro 3 years in a row. Changed 2 times lever with drum, still had problems with passing mot. Finally I replaced cast drums with one drum, custom made out of stainless steel , and then drum with lines was welded permanently to lever. It took me around 40 hours to make custom drum out of stainless steel but it was worth it. Ever since hand brake was solid , car wouldnt moove on drive with hand brake on.

      Hi Jose, the transmitter is a Flysky F6s. The screen is a simple FPV screen. I have a video TX in the quad with no camera connected just so I can use the onscreen display for telemetry information. It seems to work really well without the camera attached, no distractions, just information! The flight controller is a Maytek F405 running inav so I can use the GPS and compass.

    Overkill - just adjust your e brake at the tire! If this doesnt work its time to replace the pads.

    • @JustAskDave
      @JustAskDave 5 років тому

      Thanks for the comment Eat It - however there is no adjustment at the tyre for this part of the parking brake system, only for the pad position. This is an overly complex system for a parking brake and this ensures the park brake lever system is operating correctly. Without doing this it would not have passed road worthy inspection as the park brake lever rises too high before engaging, or not engaging properly at all.
